Who typically visits a naturopathic doctor?

People visit naturopathic doctors for a variety of reasons. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Digestive Concerns (e.g. irregularity, gas/bloating, ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s disease)
  • Fatigue
  • Stress
  • Mental and Emotional Concerns (e.g. anxiety/depression)
  • Weight Concerns
  • Hormonal Concerns
  • Thyroid Concerns
  • Woman’s Health Issues
    • menopause
    • infertility
    • decreased libido
    • healthy pregnancy
    • menstrual concerns (PMS, etc.)
  • Men’s Health Issues
    • prostate health
    • decreased libido
  • Skin Concerns
    • eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, acne
  • Candida
  • Pain – muscle, nerve, bone
  • Allergies
  • Headaches – migraines, tension
  • Arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Athletic/physical injury

Some patients come in without any particular concern, but are on a mission to optimize their health and be preventative in their health care approach.

What can you expect?

The initial visit is approximately 1.5 hours in duration and involves a detailed intake and complaint oriented physical exam.  A treatment protocol is usually decided upon during your initial visit, so you will leave the office with a plan in place.  Subsequent visits are approximately 45 minutes in duration and involve a review of progress and managing the treatment plan.

Naturopathic treatment plans may vary from individual to individual, depending on their particular circumstance and may include one or more of our naturopathic modalities, including:

  • Nutriational Couseling
  • Botanical Medicine
  • Nutritional Supplementation
  • Acupuncture
  • Physical Medicine
  • Environmental Medicine
  • Lifestyle Counseling

Some individuals are concerned that naturopathic treatments will hinder
or alter other treatments they are receiving. As natural treatments can have a profound impact on an individuals health this is a possibility, however we make every effort to ensure that this interaction is a positive one.  It is also our goal to provide care in a complementary and cooperative manner with other health professionals.

I look forward, and am committed, to providing quality naturopathic medical care with the people of Halifax and Eastern Passage.
